There’s Still a Stigma

On January 15, 2022 many of us woke up to the sad news that MARTA CEO, Jeff Parker, took his own life. As a highly visible member of the Atlanta and public transportation communities, the news sent shock waves among those that knew him well and socially.

I had the privilege to work closely with Jeff for 4 years in Atlanta. I can tell you that in those 4 years he impressed me with his intellect, his vision, and his love for his family. He truly is one of the smartest people I ever worked with; he was often 6 moves down the chess board in strategy. I’m grateful for the opportunity to know him and the impact he had on my life.

In the wake of this tragedy, TransPro wants to take this opportunity to express, unequivocally, that if you are hurting–if you are experiencing darkness, we believe that there is hope. We encourage anyone who is experiencing pain that causes them self-harm, to please, please reach out for help.

Unfortunately, seeking help still comes with a stigma. Let’s use this tragedy to shine a light on the options available to all of us.

If you are hurting, you can reach out for help to local counseling, you can call the national suicide prevention hotline: 1.800.273.8255. Heck, if you don’t want to talk to a professional, you can call me, my number is 317.513.8208. But whatever you do, please talk to someone before hurting yourself.

You are worthy of life. No matter what you’re going through, you are worthy of life, and you are loved.
